Trade agreements

International trade agreements and regulations have an enormous impact on the sourcing decisions made by major transnational industries, and therefore have an impact on national government policies. How international trade is structured directly impacts workers lives.

In recent years the end of the Agreement on Textiles and Clothing (ATC), formerly the Multi-Fibre Arrangement (MFA), on January 1st 2005 has significant economic and social consequences, in the short term mostly negative, for some key garment producing countries.

MSN has conducted research and developed publications, presentations and workshops which examine the impacts of trade agreements and regulations on workers lives. MSN is also working with companies, institutions, government, NGOs and trade unions to address the impacts of trade agreements on labour rights internationally.
